What did Liberals Get Wrong? Fareed is spot on as he usually is. https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/10/politics/video/fareeds-take-gps-2024-election-results-digvid
Re: Identity Politics
As a trans person, I still agree with him 100%. I add that when Liberals go too far left, they don’t help their cause no matter where they live.
The issue with transwomen in sports is a hot topic. I say that it’s really simple: Do what is right and fair.
The fact of the matter is that regardless of how many years a cisgender male is mentally and physically conditioned in the body as a cisgender male, the effects of hormones on the body, brain, mind and emotions is profound and it’s never brought up by ultra conservatives.
Most people do not have the experience of such profound biochemical transformation that trans people undergo when hormones change and assume that only the voice and physical appearance change. After several years with different hormone balance factors, you aren’t the same. Your emotional experience is different, your sex drive is different and even how you think is different, besides the effects on physical strength.
The degree of difference depends on how opposite sex you are to begin with. I would have been described as a mostly Yang energy female if described in the feminine prior moving toward more masculine using testosterone. However, adding testosterone for a year and onward and getting ovaries removed, the effects over time have been profound. I used to have such terrible mood swings, for example, that I would work manically at times well over 12 hours straight on my computer only to crash so terribly that I felt suicidal according to my menstrual cycle.
It has been 14 years now. I’m physically stronger than I would be otherwise, more logical, less emotional, higher in sex drive, and better at compartmentalization. I also have the unique perspective of having experienced both polarities on most levels.
Cisgender males, if changing to an extreme extent, are chemically castrated. No one who bitches about trans women in sports ever mentions that. It’s doubtful they even know about it! They take anti-androgens plus take female horomones. They have to choose whether or not they will be capable of even having an erection. If on anti-androgens, they can’t. They have to stop taking them to function in that manner. They become physically weaker as well.
So, unless it is a kind of sports event for both sexes, they shoukd be comfortable with being tested or carrying a medical document stating they are on female hormones and anti-androgens both for a certain length of time in order to qualify for female sports. In my opniin, that is fair. If they get that opportunity, they should accept it.
As someone dealing with a human condition like everyone else here and being on the autism spectrum, I was quite dumbfounded one day when I utilized the term “retarded” and an ultra liberal thought she had the right to police my terminology. I was called retarded as a kid even though I have a genius IQ It’s like black people referring to themselves or other black folks as niggers. They have a right to own it and use it as they like. Someone who isn’t black, however, doesn’t.
If something or someone is far below functioning where it should be, it’s retarded. That is literally what the term means! So, not only did I have the right due to my own battle scars alone- combined with slower development early on, but there is an appropriate use of the term and I use it liberally. No ultra liberal can toss such a judgement at me and expect it to stick just because they either feel triggered or are self-righteous or both.
